Unity 3D Session December 2012

Dave Brennan @thedavil presented a great Introduction to Unity 3D at Lightboxlab in December. Unit 3D is Unity is a game development ecosystem: a powerful rendering engine fully integrated with a complete set of intuitive tools and rapid work flows to create interactive 3D content. The topics he went through on the day were under the following headings.
Unity 3D? – What is it ? Why use it ?
Licensing & Pricing
What about the competitors? UDK, Cryengine etc.
Unity editor basics – The basic building blocks
Examining the 1st and 3rd person controller prefabs
Unity Asset Store and other places to get assets
The Unity community
Unity Scripting Basics
I think its fair to say that we all enjoyed the day and were very surprised on how far we were able to get in the space of a few hours with a very knowledgeable instructor. Hopefully after Christmas we'll get another run through and maybe look at creating terrains etc. Below is a quick video on some of what was put into practice on the day.
